The Nazarene Fund Launches Urgent Rescue Op – Baghuz: Letter from Tim Ballard.
Over the weekend, The Nazarene Fund deployed an escort team to Baghuz, Syria to retrieve 21 former ISIS captives and return them to their families in Iraq. The women and children are survivors of ISIS’s mass beheading of Yazidi captives in an area still under its control. The survivors are safe and under the supervision of Iraqi, Kurdish and Yazidi authorities.
An additional 30 former captives will be coming out within the next few days. That’s a total of 51 innocents delivered out of the darkness and into the light.
All of this happened unexpectedly, and The Nazarene Fund responded to the call without hesitation as the safety and security of these precious souls is our paramount goal. The Nazarene Fund is currently the only organization that is positioned to provide the needed assistance. We need to find the survivors’ families and reunite them with their loved ones. We need to provide them with urgent medical care, food, trauma counseling, housing, and clothing. And we need to stabilize and support then so they can try to rebuild their shattered lives after four long years of captivity slavery, rape, abuse, and terror.
I am writing to ask for your help. This is one of the largest groups of former captives that has come into our care at a single time, and their needs are both great and immediate. With more on the way, a daunting task is set before us. So, I am asking you to please, if you can, make a donation to The Nazarene Fund. Our goal is to raise $1 million to support these newly freed captives, their families and the other victims who will soon be returned. Not only will this provide for the needs listed above, it will also cover six months of support for them, their families and for the other persecuted Yazidis under our care as we assist them in relocating to a new home country.
I believe The Nazarene Fund can do this, and we will do it because of you. Together we have accomplished so much, and we will rise to the occasion once again because together we believe that good must always triumph over evil and that light will always overcome the darkness.
Thank you for being the light.
