Mercury One Keeps all our Partners and Friends in the Middle East in our Prayers.
Below is a report from our partner Preemptive Love Coalition (PLC).
Mercury One’s longtime partner, Preemptive Love Coalition (PLC), makes it their mission to “create the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible” through relief efforts across Iraq, Syria, the United States, and beyond. In this respect, their work is similar to efforts we make at Mercury One through The Nazarene Fund. PLC also strives to create jobs for refugees victimized by ISIS. With great sadness, we report that PLC experienced an unimaginable loss this week after ISIS militants attacked one of its clinics located on a military base on the Syria/Iraq frontier. The attack resulted in casualties: among those lost were three men who served as security and protection for PLC employees.
The fighting began after four ISIS trucks approached the clinic – an estimated 250 ISIS militants are thought to have been involved in the fight. Ultimately, Coalition airstrikes were called in, resulting in heavy casualties. Although many of the ISIS fighters were killed, some escaped, and their whereabouts are unknown.
Amidst this devastation, PLC wants the world to know that they will continue to fight – they will continue to “wage peace” in the Middle East. PLC worker Matt Willingham describes it best on the PLC blog:
“It is a sobering reminder. To all of you who chose to live and love on the frontlines, to give toward work in the wild badlands of Iraq and Syria each month, there is risk. These teams go knowing the risk. They know they may be pinned down for days under heavy fire—like they just were. But they keep going back again and again because this is what it means to wage peace. You don’t wage peace in the peaceful places, you wage peace in the war zones. You wage peace in the fire.”

Please keep those in the Middle East, especially Preemptive Love Coalition, in your prayers during these troubling times.
